Cooperative Learning
Inspired by Professor D. Dexter (SDSU Biology) - Marine Biology course, who
was prompted by attending a CSU Workshop:
C.F. Herreid, "Teaching Science Using Case Studies and Team
Teaching"

-
Instructor assigned groups for the CS 575 Supercomputing course, which
was a fairly large class => 8 teams of 4 individuals each.
-
Class met twice weekly for 75 minutes each in a "Smart Classroom" of
SDSU (presentation classroom with Mac or PC and good projection system
for class to follow along with Web based materials).
-
Class met in the Xterm Computer lab numerous times (12) for entire class
period
-
Class time was often divided into 45 minute lecture with 30 minute
group work on projects.
-
Attendance was taken at each meeting - to better learn names (and how
to pronounce them) - and encourage personal interactions.
