Hello High Performance Networking Enthusiasts,
I've just returned from representing SDSU at the annual Internet2 Fall Meeting in Seattle, WA. I'm working on a web-page update on this cutting edge opportunity, now that SDSU is on the Abilene Network and we have the capability to pursue the research plans that our NSF proposal outlined for CalREN2 - Phase2

The highpoints were the progress made by the I2 community for Open Source middleware (for identity, authorty, directorie and PKI)

www.internet2.edu/middleware/

and the Video over IP using multicast

www.internet2.edu/multicast/

and the Applications

apps.internet2.edu/

and, of course, our linkage to Abilene, thru CENIC. we appear by the implied listing of the Calif. SU System, since they are the entity paying the dues to belong to the Internet2 activity of UCAID

Please keep in mind, that our campus must decide the long-term position we wish to hold for any continued high-speed network access once our NSF grant runs out next year.

Hope you all have your 100 BaseT network updates in place from TNS and I look forward to future discussions as you get your own applications online.

The Educause 99 conference in Long Beach at the end of the month will be an opportunity for more detaiiled discussions, so I would appreciate hearing from you - especially the participants on our original NSF grant - about your research progress and any campus bottlenecks you may have found:

Thanks
kris
