Thank you for your response. I know that this problem can seem confusing at first. Here are some clues that should be able to get you started.
Try thinking of the problem as just being the part of the pole that is sticking out of the ground. The 5 represents 2/3 of the pole and the last 1/3 of the pole was the part that got covered by water in the storm surge. Now that you know that 2/3 = 5 can you figure out what the 1/3 is? Add all these numbers up to get the length of the pole which is sticking out of the ground. Try figuring it out on your own from there. Good luck!
