Answer(or question to Mentor): Solution: 1.) 16.5 % 2.) 7.636363… % Rationale: I got part 1 by multiplying 14 times 9 and got 126. Then I multiplied 36 times 4 to get 144. Then I multiplied 15 times 4 to get 60. Then I added all the answers to get 330 calories total in the cheeseburger. There for she had 330 calories out of 2000 calories she could take in per day, which can also be written as 330/2000. And if 2000 divided by 20= 100, then you have to divide 330 by 20 to get 16.5. This can be written as 16.5/100 which is equivalent to 16.5 %. For part 2, I figured out if 330 divided by 16.5+ 100, then I have to divide 126 by 16.5 because there are 126 calories from fat. When I divided that, I got 7.636363…/100. Which is also 7.6363…%. Sincerely, Erin Colbert

Answer(or question to Mentor): Challenge: 36 chicken nuggets. Rationale: First, I figured that if Ralph ate 1/3 there was 2/3 left of the chicken nuggets. Then I figured out that after Juan ate ¾ of that, there were 1/6 of the nuggets left. Next, I figured out that after Miles ate ½ of that, there were 1/12 of the nuggets left. And if 1/12 was Lani’s share, then 11/12 was everyone else/s share combined. Therefore, 3= 1/12 so 11/12 = 33. So there were 36 chicken nuggets.? I’m not sure if it’s wrong or not but if it is, I don’t know what to do to fix it. It doesn’t seem like she would have 36 nuggets though. Blue skies, Erin Colbert

Mentor Reply: Hi Erin,

Great job! Your answer to problem #1 “300/2000” is correct. Your explanation was clear and easy to follow. Unfortunately, problem #2 is incorrect. Why did you divided 330 by 16.5?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Maria Alvarez

Instructor Comments: Maria,
Good work, but once again you have the same typo: it should be 330/2000, not 300/2000. The second part is OK, although I think you need to say that the correct answer involves comparing fat calories to total calories so she can isolate which quantities she should divide. Finally, please note that she has done a wonderful job with the challenge problem!--DR. Bowers
