Answer(or question to Mentor): SOLUTION: A. 5.625 feet B. 1.875 feet RATIONAL: 1/4 of the pole was stuck in the ground In the 2000 storm, 5 feet was dry. 1/3 was covered by H20 So, the storm covered 2.5 feet of the part of pole out of ground. In the 2002 storm covered 3/4 of the pole out of the ground. the total height out of the ground is 7.5 feet and 3/4 of 7.5 feet is 5.625 feet. That left 1.875 feet dry. Kinda cut and dry isn't it? :)

This is an excellent answer, I agree and I like the fact that you praised his explanation as well as the answer. However, I think there is one part that could be explained more clearly: He states, "So, the storm covered 2.5 feet of the part of pole out of ground." I think you could ask him to explain how he figured out that the storm covered 2.5 feet of the part of pole out of ground. Also, good to push him to do the challenge problem.

Answer(or question to Mentor): Hey! Sorry I was kinda late wrighting back. I forgot my password! But as for the Challenge I believe I was on time. Down to buissness (or math)
Solution: No, Bob's house did not git washed away
Rational: 40% in the ground out of 10 feet is six feet out of the ground. From the previous problem: the highth of the 2002 storm was 5.625 feet. If bob's house is on stilts that are 6 feet then the waters did not reach his house because they are 5.625.
I'll tell ya one thing though. It got pretty darn close! If I was Bob I'd be movin' or replacin' stilts.

Answer(or question to Mentor): Hey!
I forgot to include why I got 2.5 feet
I got 2.5 because 1/3 of 7.5 is 2.5 this way you can know what one third is so you cand say add another third to 1/3 to make it 2/3

Answer(or question to Mentor): Solution: 1)330 calories 2)16.5% 3)38.18% Chal:36 mcnuggets
Rational: 1) 14 grams of fat times 9 calories equals 126 calories. 36 carbs times 4 calories=144 calories. 15 protein grams times 4 calories = 60 If you add these together the cheesburger has 330 calories.
2) 330 divided by 2000 = 16.5% of her daily intake
3) 126 calories divided by 330 calories = 38.18% fat
Chalenge: I worked this problem backwards. First I knew that 3 nug (mcnuggets) were left. Miles ate 1/2 of of the mcnuggets to = 3 which means there was six mcnuggets when he got his paws on them. Wan ate 3/4 of the mcnuggets before miles to equal six so he had to have chugged 18 of them leaving six that means there were 24 before he got his muffs on them. And when ralf got his mugs on the bucket he ate 1/3 before passing leaving 24. So, Ralph gobbled 12 Mcnuggets becuz 1/3 of 36 is twelve.
These people must have been preeeeeety fat! haha!

Good humor makes the work more enjoyable. Terrific in making laugh and providing the correct answers with great explanations. The step by step approach you took was easy to read. It shows me that you understood how to reach the correct answer. Great job you did this problem well. See if you can discover a new approach to solving the challenge.

Fine response in terms of content. Then again, this was an easy job since the student had such a great answer. I hope you will nominate it for posting (and tell him that you will do that). You are missing a word in the sentence: Terrific in making laugh and providing the correct answers with great explanations. Do you mean "making ME laugh?" Another way to challenge him would be to give him another problem like the McNugget one that has some adding as well as fractions. For example, make one up that has a friend taking 5 McNuggets instead of all fractional amounts.--DR. Bowers
