Answer(or question to Mentor): Hey Luis,
Sorry it is not in. The system had problems. I had everything typed in. The challenge problem included. Plus, I really like having you as my mentor. Anyway,
the answer to the first problem is : 6.2% of her daily intake. To get this I divided 330 by 2000. I did this because dividing 330 by 2000 would give you a percent. The answer that gives you is 6 with a remainder of 20. that is equal to 6.2%. The answer to problem two is: 4.9% of fat. I got this by dividing 14 by 65. I got 14 because 14 is how many grams of fat there are. I got 65 because that is how many grams of everything there are.
CHALLENGE:
the answer is 36 mcnuggets.
I drew a diagram. first i put down that it went from 1/3 to 3/4 to 1/2 to 3 mcnuggets left. i drew a digram of 3/3 because it started in 3rds. that left me with 2/3. then i took that and made it 4/4. which meant that each 1/3 was 2 of 1/4. then that left me with 1/4. and i had to break that into halfs which was 1/8 a half. then that lead me to 1/4 equaling 6 mcnuggets. i had 4 of the 1/4s. that equaled 24 mcnuggets. then i had 1/3 to find out how many mcnuggets it was and because 2/3 equaled 4 of 1/4s 1/3 equals 2 of 1/4 and because 1/4 equals 6 mcnuggets 1/3 has 12 mcnuggets. then i added 12 and 24 to get 36 mcnuggets. so that is your answer.

p.s. i know there was an easier way with twelths but i discovered thtat after wards.

Mentor Reply: Savannah,
Thank you for your submission. You have the correct numbers in your problem, yet your division was incorrect leading to the wrong answer. The wording you have is correct on how to divide but the way you plugged in the numbers was wrong. For example, dividing 330 by 2000 is supposed to produce a bigger number than the answer you have provided. Once you check your division you should reach the correct answer.
You did however find the correct answer for the challenge problem of 36 nuggets. Through your explaination it was clear that you understood how and why how you found the correct answer.
Good work, I am excited to read your revision of the first two questions.

Instructor Comments: Luis,
She apparently computed 2000/330. You say that the number she SHOULD have gotten was bigger than the one she did produce. But, this is not true. She got an answer of 6.2, whereas the number we want is actually .165, which is a lot smaller. I think she also has some difficulty converting decimals to fractions, because she states that 6.2=6.2%. So I would address that in your response. The rest of your response is fine. --Dr. Bowers
