Answer(or question to Mentor): 1. The answer is 330 calories are in her cheeseburger. First, I multiplied the 14g of fat by 9 calories because every 1 gram of fat equals 9 calories and got 126. Second, I multiplied 36g of carbohydrates by 4 calories because every 1 gram equals 4 calories and got 144. Third, I multiplied 15g of protein by 4 calories because every 1 gram of protein equals 4 calories and got 60. Last, I added all of the calories up (126, 144, and 60) and got 330 calories.

Answer(or question to Mentor): 2. The answer is 23/200. First, I knew that there was 330 grams in her cheeseburger. Next, I knew that there were 2000 calories on the daily allowance. After that, I made a fraction, which is 330/2000. I then simplified that to 115/1000. I knew that 5 could go into both of those numbers (115 and 1000), so I divided 5 into 115 and got 23 and divided 5 into 1000 and got 200. I then made a new fraction, 23/200.

Answer(or question to Mentor): 3. The answer is 14/65 of the cheeseburger is fat. First, I knew that there were 14g of fat in the cheeseburger. I then added all of the grams together (14, 36, and 15) and got 65. There were 14g of fat out of the 65g, so there is 14/65 of the cheeseburger is fat.

Mentor Reply: Hi Andrew,
Your answers to parts one and two of the problem are correct;however, the simplified version of 330/2000 is incorrect. It seems like you realized that 330 and 2000 are divisible by 2 so you got 115/1000, but I got a different answer for 330 divided by 2. Try this computation one more time.
Since you got the problem of the week correct maybe you can solve the challenge problem. I'll give you a hint: try working backwards. Drawing a picture may help too. If you need any additional help let me know. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, Andrea
