Answer(or question to Mentor): The answer is 6.4 miles. I got this by dividing 5 into 32. I divided 5 into 32 because 5 seconds make 1 mile and the total was 32 seconds.

Good job. Your answer is correct. Your conceptual explanation starts off strongly. I understand why you chose to use division to solve this problem. Your explanation could be improved by explaning the steps you used for dealing with the remainder after dividing 32 by 5. I look forward to seeing your improved explanation.

Answer(or question to Mentor): Well five goes into 32 6 times to get 30. When you subtract 30 from 32 you get 2, since there are no numbers you put a decimal on top and put a 0 by the 2. 5 goes into 20 4 times. The answer is 6.4 miles away.
The answer to challenge problem 1 is 1056 feet per second. I got this by dividing 5 into 5280. I did this because it takes 5 seconds to hear sound that is one mile away. When you divide you should get 1056.
