Answer(or question to Mentor): The answer is 6 2/5. I divided 32 into five because the lightning travels 5 counts per 1 Mile. The answer I got 6 remainder 2. Then I made the remainder into a fraction. I got 2/5. Then I put the 6 and the 2/5 together and I got 6 2/5.

Your answer is correct. Your explanation
on how you got the answer was clear. Yet, you
Forgot to tell me what 6 2/5 represents.
Here is a hint in solving the challenge problem.
Try converting one unit to another.
What do you need to know to convert one unit
to another?
I’ll be looking forward to your answer.

Please insert a
after you say "Hi Alan". Also, there are a number of squares in your response, were you using the break convention?
The points you make are right on target, but I think you are being inconsistent when you say that his answer is clear but he "forgot" to tell you the units. I would be direct and say something like "Your numerical answer of 6.4 is correct, but you did not indicate what this measures. Please recheck what the 6.4 stands for and resubmit an answer." It appears that Alan also didn't wait for a response to answer the challenge question, so include that in your response.

Your answer is correct. Your explanation on how you got the answer was clear. Your numerical answer of 6 2/5 is correct, however, in order for the answer to be completely correct, you need to explain what the measure of 6 2/5 represents in units. Please recheck what the 6 2/5 represents and resubmit an answer.
Here is a hint in solving the challenge problem. Remember to answer question # 1, you need to use the information from the first problem. The answer to 2a is correct. How did you get this answer? Please explain how you got 6,000 and what 6,000 represent in units. Please try to solve the rest of the answer for the challenge problems
I’ll be looking forward to your answer, let me know if you need any help.
Sincerely,
Angelica

Answer(or question to Mentor): The answer to 2a is 6,000. I multiplied 60 and 100 because ligtning hits 100 times per second and in one minute I put 60 because 60 seconds makes 1 miniute.
The answer to 2b is 360,00. I mutiplied 60, 100, and 60 because lignting hits 100 times per second and in one hour I did 60 because of the 60 seconds and the 100 because that is how many times lignting hits then I multiplied anouther 60 because there is 60 minutes in one hour that is how I got my answer.
The answer for number 2C is 8,640,000. I multiplied 60 times 100 times 60 times 24. I know that there are 60 seconds in one minute and that there are 60 minutes in one hour and I know that there are 24 hours in one day. That is how I got my answer.
The answer for number 2D is 60,480,000. I multiplied 60 times 100 times 60 times 24 times 7. I know that there are 60 seconds in one minute and that there are 60 minutes in one hour. I know that there are 24 hours in one day and 7 days in a week. That is how I got my answer.
The answer for number 2E is 241,929,000. I multiplied 60 times 100 times 60 times 24 times 7 times 4. I know that therre are 60 seconds in one minute and that there are 60 minutes in one hour. I know that there are 24 hours in one day and seven days in one week and 4 weeks in a month. This is how I got my answer.
The answer for number 2F is 2,903,040,000. I multiplied 60 times 100 times 60 times 24 times 7 times 4 times 12. I know that there are 60 seconds in one minute and that there are 60 minutes in one hour. I know that there are 24 hours in one day and seven days in one week and 4 weeks in a month and 12 months in a year. This is how I got my answer.

Mentor Reply: Hi Alan,
I was glad to get your second response to the challenge problem.
The answer I was expecting for # 1 was that 6 2/5 represented 6 2/5 Miles.
If it takes 32 seconds to hear the sound of thunder and the sound of thunder travels at 5 seconds per mile. Then the lightning would be 6 2/5 miles away.
The answer to #1 in the challenge problem was not correct. Your explanation to the problem was not very clear. The answer to #1 in the challenge problem is 1056 feet. You were correct in making the conversion of miles into feet. Yet the question asked you how far would sound travel in feet per second when using the information from problem #1. In the first problem you are given that sound travels 5 seconds per mile. Having this information you would have divided 5280 (feet per mile) by 5 seconds and your answer would be 1056 feet per second.
Your answers for #2a-e in the challenge problem are correct and very nicely explained. Yet the answer to #2f was not completely correct. Note that each month does not always have exactly 4 weeks. We know for certain that there are 52 weeks per year. Having this information, You should have multiplied your answer per week (2d -- 60,480,000) by 52 (weeks per year). Example:
60,480,000 x 52 = 3,144,960,000 per year.
Ovevall, your explaninations were very detailed and easy to follow.
I’ll be waiting for your answer to the next problem.
Sincerely,
Angelica
