Answer(or question to Mentor): I think its 6 miles because if 5 seconds is 1 mile than 32 seconds is 32 divided by 5 witch equals 6 miles

I'm glad that you've tried to do your problem. It is right that in 5 seconds the thunder travels 1 mile, and there is 32 seconds between the lightning and the thunder. But why did you divide 32 by 5, Shareef? Can you explain a little bit more? And also, I suggest that you should check your division and calculate it over. I'll wait to read your revision, Shareef. It would be great that you challenge yourself with the challenge problems. It is a really good practice for your mathematical skill. I would love to read your solutions for these problems.
Bye, Shareef

Shareef's answer is incorrect, so that should be clear from the beginning. Saying that you are glad that he tried the problem may not indicate clearly enough that he got it wrong. So, I would begin by asking him to check his calculations. Then you can also ask him to elaborate on why he chose to divide. Again, it is better to try to give him a particular goal instead of saying "can you explain a little bit more." The student reading that would not have any idea what you want him to explain more about.
It is clear that you are still struggling with your English, so please submit your revision to me again before you send it out directly.

Thank you for submitting your response. Your answer to the problem is incorrect, however. You should check your calculation over to see what 32 divide by 5 equals. Beyond that, you did not explain why you used division to solve this problem. Can you revise your explanation so that a student who is confused about this problem would understand how to solve it? I'll wait to read your revision and it would be great if you try to do both of the challenge problems.
Bye, Shareef

here is my revised message that I sent to the student:
Shareef,
Thank you for submitting your response. Your answer to the problem is on the right track, but we were expecting a more exact answer. You are correct that the answer can be obtained by dividing 32 by 5, but what can you do with the remainder? Also, one of the requirements of this assignment is that we want you to explain why you chose to solve the problem as you did. So, can you explain why you used division?
I am looking forward to reading your revised solution and it would be great if you try to do both of the challenge problems too.

Answer(or question to Mentor): The remainder is .2 because 32 Divided by 5 is 6.2 because i changed the remainder to a decimal.
