Answer(or question to Mentor): Nhia,
I believ that the following is the answer because....
Problem solution: 6.4 miles
Rationale: X=how many miles it travels
32/5=x
5 sec. =1 mile
32/5=6.4
6.4 x 5

Answer(or question to Mentor):
Nhia,
I don’t know how to solve this problem. Would you solve it by (knowing how many feet are in a mile) multiplying the amount of feet times how many seconds there are?

P.S.
This is for challenge 1!

Thank your for reponding, and nice to meet you. You are absoluting got the right answer. But, I'm not sure how you got your answer. Could you please explain why you dividing 32/5?
For the challenge problem 1: I know you knew how to do it. But, you are not sure, right? You are in the right track, Cristin. It is possible to solve this problem by knowing how many feet are in a mile. But, why are you thinking of multplying? Hint: If you have 10 pieces of candy, and you want to share with 5 friends. How many candies can each of your friend have? I want you to try to solve the 2nd part of the challenge problem, too. See you next time.

Instructor Comments: Nhia,
A very nice opening. However, once again you have several grammatical errors.
1. You say "You are absoluting got the right answer". absoluting is not a word.
2. You then say, "Could you please explain why you dividing 32/5?" Here, the tense shoudl be "Could you please explain why you DIVIDED 32/5?" However, maybe you could combine these sentences to say, "Your answer is correct, however, your explanation does not really describe why you chose to divide." You could also add the sentence about explaining it to a friend in class who may not understand why you chose division.
3. Your statement for the challenge problem is not consistent. You say that you know that he knew what he was doing, but then you ask him if he was sure or not. I would delete that sentence.
4. In the next sentence, the expression is ON the right track, not IN the right track.
5. You ask her why she is thinking of multiplying and imply that she should think about division. However, division by 5 is the same thing as multiplying by 1/5. Your hint is fine, but I would take out the question asking her why she wanted to multiply.

Thank your for reponding, and nice to meet you. You got the right answer, however, your explanation does not really describe why you chose to divide. Suppose that your partner did not understand. Can you find a way to explain why you used division?

I look forward to read your revision and the challenge problem.

I did not get your revision or solution for the challenge problem. I hope you're working on it. If you still have trouble figure out.
Here are the solutions for the challenge problem: a) 6,000 strikes per minutes, because there are 60 second in 1 minute, and 100 strikes per second. You multiplied 100 second by 60-second equal 6,000 strikes. B) 360,000 strike per second, because there are 60 min. in 1 hr. You multiplied 6,000 strikes by 60 minutes equal 360,000 strikes, C) You multiplied 360,000 strikes by 24 hours equal 8,640,000 strikes, D) You multiplied 8,640,000 strikes by 7 days equal 60,480,000 strikes, E) You multiplied 60,480,000 strikes by 4 weeks equal 241,920,000 strikes, and F) you multiplied 241,920,000 strikes by 12 months equal 2,903,040,000 strikes. I hope this will help you understand the problem better. If there is any question, let me know if I can be any further assistant.
