Answer(or question to Mentor): I think that the storm is 160 seconds away. I think that because I multiplied 32 times 5. I multiplied 32 times 5 because there is thirty two second pass between the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder. And if it takes 5 seconds to count till you hear the thunder then my answer would be 160 seconds away.

Mentor Reply: Hi Olivia, you are off to a great start. However, your answer is not correct. I would like to know why you multiplied 32 seconds times the 5 seconds. Please look over the problem again and consider answering your problem in miles. I am looking forward to reading your revision. Good Luck!

Answer(or question to Mentor): A. Per minute becuse if it was any of the others it wouldn't make sense. Do you know what I'm saying? Well anyway, i think it would be per minute because I would probably be bored if a lightning striked once a year.

Instructor Comments: Lillian,
Great job on striking a balance between writing something positive and also telling her that her answer is incorrect. It appears from her writing that she may not be interpreting her answer in terms of multiplication, so maybe you could help her out by saying something like, "when you multiply, you are finding out how many seconds there would be if you had 5 sets of 32 seconds. Is that what you mean?" I don't know if it will help, but let's try it!
Also, you obviously have to address her questions about the challenge problem.

Answer(or question to Mentor): Ok, I looked over the problem...and I found the answer. And I got 6.2 miles. I found this out because 5 goes into thirty two 6 times and it has two left over and so I found the answer. If it's not right i will be mad at myself. (Not Really) but anyway thats my answer. 6.2 miles! P.S.- I hope it's right!!! :)
