I got 6 2/5 for my answer. ~Sarah~ Challenge 1: I don't know. Will you tell me how many feet are in mile? Then I can get the answer and give it to you. Challenge 2: I don't know!! Mentor Reply: Hello Sarah,
Sarah you have the right answer. I was just wondering if you could tell me where the 2/5 came from.
Now to the challenge problem:
Part one- I would like you to find out how many feet are in a mile by yourself. You can look in your math book or even look on the internet.
Part two- I will give you this hint: how many seconds are in a minute. From there you might be able to figure out how to do the problem. If you need any more hints just write me back.
Thanks, Dawn

Instructor Comments: Dawn,
Regarding the original question, I would say the same comments as those for Amanda.
Regarding the challenge problem, I would say that you may need to be a bit more direct in your hint. Maybe you could begin by asking her to think about the question like this: the problem states that lightening strikes about 100 times per second. So, how many times would it strike in 2 seconds? How about 3 seconds? etc. Now, think about how many seconds there are in a minute.

Answer(or question to Mentor): Ok, here's how I got the 2/5. I divided 5 into 32 and 5 can go into 30 6 times. There was a remainder of 2 so I put it in a fraction over the 5 and I got 2/5. Challenge 1: Thank you for your suggestions. I will get back to you when I get help. Thanks!!!!! Challenge 2: Ok Thank you!! Ok I think this is right. a. 6,000 strikes b. I am very sorry it is very confusing! :( Dawn, I am sorry I am very confused and I don't know for sure if I got letter A. Right either. Will You please give me another hint or clue of the sort?!!!? That would be very helpfull! Thank You Very Very Much! ~Sarah~

Mentor Reply: Hi Sarah, I am sorry if my message to you made it seem I am mad at you. I am not mad at you at all.
You were right on challenge 2a there are 6000 strikes in on minute. Here are some hint to figure out the rest of the problem: How many minutes are in a hour? How many hours are in a day? How many days are in a week? How many weeks are in a month? and How many months are in a year?
You can use the 6000 strikes to help you with the other problems.
You might also know by now how many feet are in a mile, but here it is anyways. There are 5,280 feet in a mile.
I can't wait to here from you for the next problem, Dawn.
